- Clean the camera lens carefully before checking software settings.
- Always tap to focus manually, especially in low-light or uneven scenes.
- Clear the camera app cache to remove temporary glitches.
- Use Safe Mode to check if third-party apps are affecting the camera.
- Updating your software and camera app can resolve common blur issues.
A blurry camera can be incredibly frustrating—especially when you just want to snap a quick photo or scan a QR code. It happened to me recently while using my Galaxy S25 Ultra right here in the Philippines. One day, all my shots looked smudgy, even in broad daylight. I thought something was wrong with the camera hardware, but it turned out to be something I could fix myself.
If your Samsung Galaxy camera isn’t focusing clearly, try these steps before heading to a repair center.
Clean the Camera Lens.
This should always be the first thing you check. Dirt, dust, or fingerprints can easily make your shots look blurry.
- Use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the camera lens gently.
- If needed, dampen the cloth slightly with water—avoid alcohol or chemical cleaners.
- Don’t use tissue or clothing, which can scratch the lens or leave fibers.
Living in a humid climate like ours, lenses can get foggy or collect moisture easily, especially after going outside or staying in air-conditioned rooms.
Tap to Focus.
Samsung’s autofocus is powerful, but it doesn’t always get it right—especially when you’re moving or taking close-up shots.
- Open the Camera app.
- Tap on the subject you want to focus on.
- Wait for the focus to lock in before taking the photo.
This small step can instantly sharpen your images and reduce the chance of soft or unclear photos.
Clear the Camera App Cache.
Sometimes, the app itself starts misbehaving and can cause blurry or slow focus.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Apps, then choose Camera.
- Tap Storage, then Clear cache.
This won’t delete any of your photos or videos. It simply removes temporary files that may be interfering with the app’s performance.
Try Safe Mode to Test for App Conflicts.
Some third-party apps—like photo editors or camera filters—can affect the way your camera behaves.
- Hold the Power key until the power menu appears.
- Tap and hold Power off until Safe Mode appears.
- Tap Safe Mode and wait for the phone to restart.
Once in Safe Mode, open the camera and test it. If your pictures are sharp again, then a third-party app is likely the cause. Restart normally and try uninstalling recent apps one by one.
Reset Camera Settings.
Custom settings may unintentionally cause blur or poor performance.
- Open the Camera app.
- Tap the Settings icon (gear).
- Scroll down and tap Reset settings.
This puts all camera settings back to default without affecting your photos or other apps.
Update the Camera App and System Software.
Samsung releases regular updates that improve camera quality, especially on newer phones like the S25 Ultra.
- Open the Galaxy Store, search for Camera, and install any available updates.
- Then go to Settings > Software update.
- Tap Download and install to check for phone updates.
Since 2025 updates often include camera optimization, staying up to date is important for better clarity and focus.
Use Pro Mode for Better Focus Control.
If auto mode keeps failing, try using Pro Mode.
- Open the Camera app.
- Swipe to More, then select Pro.
- Adjust the focus, ISO, and shutter speed based on your environment.
It takes a bit of practice, but you’ll get sharper images—especially in challenging lighting conditions.
If your camera still struggles to focus after all of these, it could be a hardware issue like a damaged lens or focusing motor. You can visit any authorized Samsung service center in the Philippines to have it checked, especially if your phone is still under warranty.
